This is done by combining two molecules (moieties) together to form a single molecule, together with a loss of a small molecule. Some of the types of small molecules that could be lost are acetic acid, hydrogen chloride, and methanol. If the small loss is a water molecule than it is called a dehydration reaction. This is how you obtain OCTYL ACETATE.
USES:
Octyl Acetate has an orange aroma. It is used mainly when making orange or citrus smelling candle wax. The organic compound is mixed in with the original plain wax and with a few other compounds to make the wax have a orange flavor. Octyl Acetate does not give the wax an orange color because it is a clear compound. It also does not give it an orange taste either. It is solely used for its orange sent.
